I remember when I was a teenager kicking around the streets of Plymouth in Southwest England that all the pubs used to close between three and five in the afternoon; it was the law. Sunday’s were even more ridiculous, as pubs would open at noon, but serve only until two-thirty, then reopen at seven and close again a little after 10.
