The internet is changing a lot of things and opening up new possibilities. You can now start a career and earn a living online. You can also shop for the things you need and even access products from different markets around the world. Want to develop an investment portfolio? You can do that too.

One recent trend, especially among students in Toronto and Canada in general, is distance learning. If you have been dreaming of getting a degree from a top-notch U.S. university but you are not sure about moving closer to the university, then online learning is definitely for you.

WHAT IS ONLINE LEARNING?

Online learning, also known as distance learning, is very similar in content to the offline programs. You still have to follow a certain syllabus and complete a predetermined set of credit hours to get a degree. The only difference is that you can now do all of that from the comfort of your home – or a coffee shop.

There are a lot of majors to choose from and degrees to pursue as well. You can, for example, pursue an online bachelor of science in marketing from an ivy league college without leaving Toronto. You can also enroll in top universities such as Arizona State University without needing to move near the campus.

As mentioned earlier, online learning is quickly becoming popular among students in Toronto. Many workers and executives are also taking online marketing degrees and other programs to acquire a bachelor’s or a master’s degree of their choice.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE LEARNING?

Online learning offers a wide range of benefits, among them are:

- You can study at your own time and pursue a degree from top US universities no matter where you are.

- You have complete control over the course, meaning you can choose to complete the course as quickly as you like.

- Online learning programs are more affordable than their offline counterparts by as much as 40%.

- You can still get scholarships and use student loans to finance the course.

- You have the same access to top lecturers and course materials as offline students.

The main benefit of online learning, however, is flexibility. You now have the ability to pursue a degree while working a full time job or running a business. You also have the option to take the course while traveling the world. They are really that flexible.

ACCREDITATION AND CHALLENGES

While there is no doubt that online learning programs are flexible, they are no less challenging than offline courses. In fact, online courses can be more challenging for some students. You are required to manage your own time and be more independent. You have to keep up with the course, the assignments and other tasks too, including passing exams.

The best courses are accredited, which means they are following a very strict set of standards. In order to graduate and get the degree you want, you need to meet these standards. That said, a lot of Toronto-based students are already getting their bachelor’s and master’s degrees from online learning programs. You can get the degree of your dreams – from the university of your choice – too.
