Have you recently noticed that your mental health is starting to take a hit? You might have been carefree and much more outgoing when you were younger. Then again, those better days may not have been all that far in the past. Regardless, you will want to make sure that you are reaching out for help. You want to get your mental health back to where it should be so you can get back to enjoying life and your family to the fullest. Here are some ways to do that.

TAKE CARE OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEMS

What came first, the substance abuse or the depression? For many people, this can be the chicken and egg question. It is really hard to know what came first. This is especially true since drug and alcohol use will cause people to become depressed. You might have been feeling a little down before you started to experiment with things, but it might not have been a full-blown depression. So before you try to work on anything else, you will want to check yourself into a treatment center, such as the renowned Arizona rehab facility called, The River Source. This way, you will be able to work on freeing yourself from addiction so the rest of your mental health issues can be addressed properly. Until you do that, your judgment and your feelings are clouded. There is no way to tell what is the drug and what is your base mental state.

START USING AFFIRMATIONS EVERY DAY

You will want to make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to make use of daily affirmations. This is done in order to increase your self-confidence and to help bring your dreams into reality. Affirmations are positive statements you are going to say to yourself several times a day. To help you remember to say them, and what exactly you should be saying, you will want to write the affirmation done on several pieces of paper or sticky notes. Put a note on your fridge, your bathroom mirror, your steering wheel in the car, on your television, and on the corner of your computer monitor. While you can place the affirmation papers other places as well, this should be a good start.

START EXERCISING

Believe it or not, your physical health has a lot to do with your mental health. Therefore, once you have taken care of any addiction issues, you will want to start an exercise routine. Even if all you do is go for a walk around the block a few times, as long as you are consistently doing this, you will find that it will start to help improve your mental health.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT KIND OF PEOPLE

You will want to make it a point to no longer surround yourself with people who would be a negative influence on you. This means that you need to steer clear of the people in your life who abuse drugs and alcohol, those who are stuck in their own deep depression if they are not actively trying to get out of it, and anyone that strives to make you feel lesser than them. You want fun and positive people in your life. This might mean you will have to look for a new group of friends. Try making new connections on social media or at work. You might want to try finding some long lost family that you could reconnect with, as long as they are positive people to have in your life. Before you know it, you will find that your mental health will begin to get so much better.

As you can see, there are many things that you can do in order to tackle your mental health problem. When all else fails, you will want to speak with your doctor as he or she may be able to prescribe a medication that will help you even more.
