Given the rise of the number of online casino sites, you could be forgiven for thinking that the age of brick and mortar gaming has passed. After all, the growth of this market segment has been as rapid as it has been impressive, with revenues rising from $35.5 billion in 2013 to a projected $56.05 billion by the end of 2018.

The bell has not yet tolled for the online casino market, however, as people continue to visit land-based outlets for a variety of reasons. One of the most prominent is the fact that casinos usually offer a huge diversity of entertainment, which sit comfortably alongside luxury accommodation and high-end eateries. This underpins the social element of gaming, which is a key motivation for many players to take to the market in the first instance.

Canadians have a relatively relaxed approach to gaming, with a number of popular casinos available nationwide. These outlets have been particularly successful in developing the entertainment aspect of their appeal, featuring a host of rotating shows that are available to everyone (regardless of whether you intend to gamble or not). This makes brick and mortar casinos popular among a wider demographic of visitors, and here are some of the most visited shows and events on offer.

Located in Halifax, Casino Nova Scotia is known for a diverse range of performances and its heavy musical influence. This spring will see the resort host Abbamania, for example, which a pop rock musical that takes visitors backs to the famous disco led by Swedish group Abba in the 1970's. April's ComedyFest is also sure to draw a host of visitors nationwide, with North America's biggest comedic performers including Godfrey, Cathy Jones and Bob Marley all in action.

Edmonton and the surrounding regions boast more than one casino, with the Palace Casino in Alberta particularly renowned for its entertainment options. Featuring the famous WOW (We're One World) band, this casino offers everything from classic tracks to contemporary hits across all styles and genres.

On the fringes of Edmonton is the River Cree Casino, which is another that is synonymous with comedy and musicals. This year has already seen the 'Best Male Stand-up Comedian American Comedy Award' hosted at the venue, while the resort's shows also include state-of-the-art video, graphics and superb audio performance.

One of Canada's most popular casino locations, Ontario is home to the brilliant Casino Rama and Caesars. The former has a full schedule and world-class line-up pencilled in for the late spring and early summer, with guitar legend Santana and Ron James set appear at the venue in the next week alone.

Caesars, which is located in Windsor, is also renowned for its access to world-class performers, while it also breaks new ground with diverse variety acts. Think of Paul Zerdin, for example, who combines hilarious ventriloquism with comic timing to deliver a virtuoso display.
