Finally: A Hollywood movie about slavery that is actually told from the perspective black slaves and directed by a black person. Witness below the trailer for Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave.

The film chronicles the real-life story of Solomon Northup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free African American living in New York who is kidnapped into slavery.

Also in the film are Michael Fassbender (playing a slave owner), Brad Pitt (playing a Canadian abolitionist), Michael Kenneth Williams, Quvenzhané Wallis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Paulson, Paul Dano, and Paul Giamatti.

You could say 12 Years a Slave is Django Subverted, a sober, authentic counter to Tarantino's outrageous fetishization of violence and slavery in the South.

The film is scheduled for limited release October 18.
