If you’re in a committed relationship or marriage, then having a man cave can be a great thing for both you and your significant other. Yup … you heard that right. Man caves can be a great addition to the home for both you and your special lady. Why? Well, everyone needs their own personal space to retreat to. That time apart can help guys learn to appreciate the time you do spend together.

No more arguing over who’s going to watch TV on Sundays or whether you’re going to watch a game or a Lifetime movie. You now have your own space to be free to be exactly who you are and do exactly as you please. Not to mention that your lady won’t have to worry about your sports memorabilia, posters and other “guy” stuff being displayed all around the house.

So, if you’re going to build the perfect man cave, you’re going to need to know exactly where you want to build it, and what you should include in your space. The great thing about a man cave is they can be placed just about anywhere. Whether you opt to use one of the spare rooms, take over the basement, or build your oasis outside in the garage, there are plenty of areas around the home you can choose from. Once you’ve found your special space it’s time to fill it up with cool things. We suggest you start with these four essentials:

1.  A Recliner – The man cave is the place you go to relax and unwind after a long hard day. What better way to relax than in your own reclining chair? There are plenty of options to choose from, so you don’t have to go with the most expensive option if it’s not in your budget. There are recliners that have tons of features including Bluetooth capabilities, and even ones that have cup and remote holders.

2.  Big Screen TV – What’s a man cave without a big screen? If you’re a huge football fan than you’re definitely going to want to be able to keep up with all the latest games. The link has a list of the Sunday football schedule so planning your next Sunday football gathering with the guys will be fairly simple. Now you don’t have to worry about disturbing the ladies and can enjoy the entire game in the comfort of your own man cave.

3.  A Mini Bar and Fridge – What’s the point in having your own oasis if you have to walk to and from the kitchen every time you want a drink? If you want to avoid this task altogether, having a mini bar and fridge in your man cave is the way to do it. This doesn’t have to be some extravagant bar (unless of course you have the funds for it). It can be something as simple as a few shelves to store the liquor and a mini fridge which would run you a few hundred bucks (buying used might even be a more affordable option). Having these things in your man cave also makes it a lot easier to host football parties as your guests don’t have to travel back and forth to the kitchen either. If you’re really into hosting events, learning a few new ways to make cool drinks is a great way to impress your company.

4.  Game Table – You’re not always going to be watching football in your man cave. So you’re going to need something else to entertain you while you’re down there. There are plenty of options you can choose from for entertainment, but having a game table of sorts is probably your best bet. Whether you choose a pool table, foosball, air hockey, or a poker table, you can have a lot of fun playing in your own space.

So there you have it … four things that your man cave simply must have. Your Lazyboy recliner (or whichever recliner you opt to purchase) for rest and relaxation, the big screen TV to keep up with all the latest sports, the mini bar and fridge to stay hydrated and save you trips to the kitchen, and a game table to keep things interesting when there’s nothing on the big screen. If you invest in these four things, chances are you probably won’t want to come out of your room any time soon. Have fun in creating  a space that is all your own that you can enjoy on your own, with friends or even ... the wife.
